We need a new team member for our commercial print facility. This role is part-time, evening shifts at $17.50/hour. While newspaper or manufacturing environment experience is preferred, we are willing to train candidates who have a mechanical aptitude and have the ability to work in a deadline-driven team environment. The Press Utility Worker is responsible for making plates, setting up reel stands, moving newsprint and overseeing Press Room production equipment. Candidate will work both independently and as a team with press operators and supervisors to ensure smooth operation of each production run according to established production schedules, safety procedures and regulations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting reel stand equipment, preparing and loading rolls of newsprint onto press, operating forklift equipment and performing general housekeeping of newsprint waste, reel room area and other work areas. Strong communication, computer skills and the ability to adapt to frequently changing assignments and schedules are essential. This position is located in a noisy production environment requiring personal protective equipment. Ability to lift tools, supplies, equipment and other maintenance related items weighing up to 70 lbs. occasionally, 30 lbs. frequently. Ability to move rolls of newsprint, weighing up to 1000 pounds, through use of roll cart system. Ability to maneuver, as necessary, to troubleshoot and provide minor adjustments to equipment. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule as necessary including nights, weekends and holidays when needed. Hours are 3:30 or 4 pm until end of press runs (typically 11:30 pm or midnight).
