About the Position:
Civic seeks a Human Resources (HR) and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Associate to increase its successful Talent team's capacity to drive talent initiatives that improve the employee lifecycle and promotes a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture. This individual will be self-motivated and driven by creating high-quality solutions that support our recruitment and hiring, organizational development, HR systems, and performance management practices. This role will advance Civic's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and racial justice (DEIRJ).
Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Hiring
- Refine recruitment and interviewing practices to support managers and teams to fill open positions and ensure Civic's practices are equitable, welcoming, and accessible for all.
- Leverage systems, such as JazzHR, and external recruiters to expand Civic's outreach to candidates across diverse audiences.
- Track the diversity of candidate pools at every stage of the hiring process, analyze data and identify strategies to support inclusive recruitment practices.
- Implement comprehensive onboarding supports for new hires, including fellows and interns.
HR Administration
- Support benefits administration, compensation, payroll, time and attendance, and other HR processes to efficiently manage the employee lifecycle using an HRIS system, such as ADP Workforce Now.
- Utilize people management software tools, such as Lattice, to support performance management, growth and engagement processes (i.e., goal-setting, pulse surveys, 360s, career tracks, etc.)
- Keep up-to-date with trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR, talent management, and employment law to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws.
- Support relationships, contracts, renewals with HR and benefits systems and vendors.
- Navigate confidential matters that require sensitivity and discretion.
DEIRJ and Workplace Culture
- Ensure that DEIRJ best practices are integrated into all HR functions including policy development, internal communications, staff meetings and other activities such as employee surveys, employee resource groups and professional development opportunities.
- Coordinate learning, skill-building and awareness events, experiences, and resources to support our DEIRJ initiatives and promote employee engagement, belonging, recognition, and retention.
- Identify best practices and resources for individuals and managers on workplace culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion, professional learning, and delivering effective feedback.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Requirements:
- Three years of related professional experience in HR and DEI in a professional and/or non-profit setting
- Relevant Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Familiarity with HR labor laws, policies, and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills
- Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
- Eagerness to learn and flexibly contribute to a small organization that thrives in entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
- Passion about Civic's mission to support high-quality education options for under-resourced communities.
- JazzHR or other applicant tracking system experience a plus
- Lattice or other people management software platform experience a plus
- ADP Workforce Now or other HRIS experience a plus
- QuickBooks or other payroll systems experience a plus
- Google Suite (Google Drive, Docs, Slides and Sheets) a plus
- SHRM Certified Professional or other related certification course or program a plus
