Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Education
- An MA in an appropriate field (English, Education, Communication, Writing Studies, etc) with training/coursework in pedagogical theory and practice, multilingual instruction, and diverse forms of academic argumentation.
- Three or more years of experience in writing center work, e.g. as a peer tutor, member of center support staff, or as an administrator.
- Student supervisory experience.
- An understanding of the ethos of a highly selective liberal arts college.
- Familiarity with writing instruction.
- Consensus building skills.
- A teamwork approach is essential.

- Hiring, training, and supervising the student junior staff, student tutors and writing assistants.
- Oversee quarterly hiring of undergraduate tutors and provide instruction to senior staff tutors as part of hiring process.
- Organize regular workshops and training events for Writing Center staff.

Assessing Writing Center
- Produce quarterly and annual reports on capacity, reach, utilization of tutors, performance of tutors and writing assistants.
- Solicit and summarize feedback from visitors to Writing Center and campus partners.

Budget Responsibilities
- Track expenses and compensation of Writing Center staff on a quarterly basis.
- Distribute annual awards for tutoring staff.
- Work with Program Administrator to reconcile Writing Center lines of Writing Program budget.

- Provide regular training sessions to enable students to conduct workshops.
- Provide peer feedback to fellow tutors.
- Conduct regular meetings with student staff team.

- Coordinate writing tutoring needs and best practices with Student Accessibility Services, undergraduate deans, new student orientation, Academic Enrichment & Learning, the library, DCAL, language program directors, etc.

- Coordinate and provide training for FYSEP and SEAD program staff, assign tutors to support students in these programs.
