JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Ensures safe and efficient operation of University Centrifugal Chillers (up to 2000 tons) and other equipment associated with the chiller plants in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards.
- Monitors, operates, and troubleshoots the chiller management system that controls the chilled water equipment serving the campus.
- Monitors and maintains cooling tower water treatment controllers and associated equipment.
- Maintains and records entries in logbooks, operating logs, and regulatory reports.
- Performs daily rounds to inspect chiller equipment, verify efficient operation, intiate work orders for repairs, and respond to alarms.
- Samples, tests, analyzes, mixes and injects chemicals as necessary to maintain correct water chemistry for systems.
- Works in a safe manner and keeps up with OSHA standards and all other applicable federal regulations.
- Completes preventative maintenance orders, work orders, and documents work performed.
- Communicates orally and written with department personnel and management for the purpose of receiving and advising on matters concerning chiller plant operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience operating industrial HVAC equipment.
- Graduation from an accredited HVAC technical school or equivalent experience.
- Universal refrigerant certification.
- One or more years of experience operating chillers sized 500 tons and up including cooling towers and associated equipment.
- May require a valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, stoop and twist.
- Work environment involves indoors, outdoors extreme weather conditions and high noise areas.
