Accounting Specialist II


Job Summary
The Accounting Specialist II performs non-routine, moderately complex accounting functions. Reconciles Procurement Card accounts, audits card transactions, and prepares reports. Provides support to the Procurement office.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Audits card transactions for errors and communicates with cardholders on a regular basis to discuss status, changes, and discrepancies.
  • Ensures transactions are in compliance with policies, procedures, and business processes.
  • Manages and maintains procurement card accounting records.
  • Provides excellent customer service by receiving and managing card requests and card increase requests in accordance with department policies.
  • Audits, processes, and records refund transactions.
  • Participates in ongoing training for cardholders.
  • Assists with settlement runs twice a week, including printing of checks.
  • Prepares reports and statements.
  • Responds to customers questions or problems related to accounting functions and policies.
  • Manages and sends reconciling reminders to cardholders.


Other Duties:
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Six years of relevant full-time professional experience in a closely related field.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, or closely related field.
  • Six years of relevant full-time accounting support experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to gain a working knowledge of University Chart of Accounts.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with general office procedures.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Workday or similar enterprise financial management software application.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and vendors.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.
