Overview
This Lewis Center for the Arts is looking for a part time temporary weekend and evening Sculpture Shop Assistant to join the Visual Arts Program. This position works in tandem with the Sculpture Shop Supervisor, and the Sculpture Shop Staff to support the faculty and students who use the sculpture shop and mold-making studio, providing art safety support and oversight of undergraduate students using the sculpture shop use during open shop hours.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Oversees evening/weekend open shop hours (approximately 12 hour/week)
- Maintains organization and inventory supplies and equipment during shop hours
- Assists in shop maintenance and clean up
- Provides additional support for Visual Arts Program studio and classroom set up
- Coordinates support of classes and student independent work in close communication with Shop Staff and Faculty
- Ensures safe operations and best practices by students, Faculty and Staff in sculpture Shop and associated supported spaces
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Art or Art History background or degree preferred
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work well independently, as well as collaboratively
- Excellent working knowledge of sculpture art processes, including Wood working, Welding, Mold making
- Working knowledge of the operation and general maintenance of a variety sculpture equipment and tools, including but not limited to:
Table saw
Band saw
Belt sander
Scroll saw
Drill press
Lathe
Planer
Panel saw
Miter saw
Pneumatic tools
Tig welder
Oxy-Acetylene Welding
- Ability to lift 50 pounds is required and the successful applicant must pass a mandatory physical aptitude test
