Director of Financial Aid
Job Description
This position is responsible for the day-to-day school operations in the areas of financial funding and student satisfaction. Our Financial Aid team ensures that financial aid policies and procedures are followed systematically and effectively across different departments and functions. They oversee and participate in interviewing prospective students and working with each enrolled student to ensure that every student receives the best financial aid award package possible. They support the institution’s audit and reporting activities.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages the school’s Financial Aid Department staff.
- Checks NSLDS (National Student Loan Data System) to determine applicant/student’s default status.
- Uses ED Connect and ED Express software to package, originate, and print disbursement lists for grants and direct loans.
- Releases disbursements in a timely manner according to school policies and procedures and Title IV regulations.
- Keeps up to date with all the Federal Financial Aid Regulations (FSA Handbooks)
- Conducts professional judgment and verifications as needed.
- Upholds highest integrity and ethics when dealing with students.
- Maintains confidentiality of information per applicable
- Federal and Local regulations. Issues authorization forms, invoices, and correspond with different referring agencies
- Prepares drop packages for withdrawn students in conjunction with the Business Office Reconciles disbursement records and other accounts on a monthly basis
- Manages federal and state reporting requirements (SSCR, DLSAS, NSLDS, etc.)
- Maintains records for the financial aid candidates as required
- Schedules and conducts departmental meetings
- Supervises and maintains the overall efficiency of the financial aid department.
- Conducts other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- BS/BA degree with accounting coursework or related work-experience.
- 3+ years of financial aid experience.
- Ability to work with numbers and analyze financial information and reports.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of applications (Windows Explorer, Word, and especially Excel),
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarization with bank reconciliation.
- Experience with the US Education Department's Federal Financial Aid systems (ED Express, ED Connect, DLSAS, SSCR, etc.) (a plus, but not necessary)
