Sioux City Fire Rescue (SCFR) is an internationally accredited agency serving the citizens and visitors of
Sioux City since 1888. SCFR provides the highest level of professional service possible.
SCFR EMS Division has an opening for a Paramedic who is looking to be part of our successful team. SCFR
operates under the supervision of a contracted medical director who oversees the protocols, continuous quality
improvement process and EMS providers working under his/her license.
Based upon the current shift schedule, which includes overtime for hours worked in excess of the regular
workweek, the average annual wage for starting Paramedics is up to $73,828. Opportunities to work
additional shifts/hours are occasionally available. Hours of work will vary; the division operates every day.
The position provides direct patient care and transport in the prehospital environment and ensures completion
of accurate and compliant electronic patient care reports consistent with CADS (Certified Ambulance
Documentation Specialist) standards. CADS course is provided during Orientation. Additionally, performs
non-emergency functions such as injury/illness prevention and other public safety activities.
Employee must have a valid Iowa Paramedic Certification at start of employment. Candidates who are not
certified in Iowa will need to provide evidence of application for reciprocity within a week of the conditional
offer and will be required to provide evidence of Iowa Paramedic certification prior to start of employment.
Candidates must pass a Civil Service testing process which also includes a physical agility test and an Oral
Examination prior to being placed on a Civil Service Eligibility List. Job offers are conditional and contingent
upon passing pre-employment physical screening (by physical therapist); urine drug screen; physical exam to
include lab work, pulmonary function screen, vision screen and audiogram; and a background check.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain and possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License by employment start
date. Must be eligible to obtain an Iowa Paramedic Certification prior to date of hire. Must possess or
obtain an American Heart Association (AHA) PALS within two (2) weeks from date of hire.
Paramedic:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Possess current Iowa Paramedic Certification
• Possess current American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS
Or
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Possess current National Registry Paramedic Certification
• Possess current American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS
Or
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent and,
• Must possess a current EMT certification and,
• Must be enrolled in a paramedic program and,
• Must have completed and possess a current AHA ACLS Certification
Preferred:
1-3 years of clinical experience in emergency car
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
EMS-related Instructor Certifications
