Job Description:


SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a full-time Computer Science instructor to join the Division of Mathematics, Science, Technology, and Health. The faculty member will teach courses in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, and Programming for Game Design degree programs. We are excited to find an instructor that will work with the division to promote the Programming for Game Design degree program as a great career opportunity for our students and help to develop industry partnerships. Ideal candidates will bring professional experience working in computer science, computer information systems, cybersecurity, 2D and 3D gaming environments and a broad range of technical and creative skills. The ability to connect your professional experiences to course material in order to bring relevance to the material in the classroom setting is highly desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach a full-time course load (15 credit hours/semester) in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Programming for Game Design
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours to provide students with support
  • Assess program goals and student progress
  • Continually update the program in order to stay relevant with new software and languages used in game design and practices so that students' degrees stay current and are marketable within the industry
  • Coordinate program offerings and facilitate partnerships to grow and expand and to innovate within the program for Gaming Design
  • Participate in division activities, to include but not limited to retention, recruitment, and program review
  • Serve on college committees and participate in the college's shared governance structure; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Animation, Game Design or a related discipline, OR a Master's degree or higher plus 18 graduate credit hours in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Animation, Game Design or a related discipline
  • Experience with and ability to teach courses in the following languages: C#, C++, Java, Java Script, HTML, SQL, and Python
  • Knowledge of the history of Gaming and Game Design
  • Experience in 2D design and 3D modeling of game assets
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to create inclusive and engaging learning environments for an increasingly diverse student population
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency using the game engine Unity 3D or similar environments
  • At least one year of experience in teaching, preferably at the community college level
  • Experience with online instruction

Salary: $47,802 per year
