Postdoctoral/Research Scientist
A postdoctoral or research scientist position is available immediately in the laboratories of Drs. Tatyana Igumenova and Vytas Bankaitis at Texas A&M University, Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. The project will make use of atomistic Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to uncover the molecular mechanisms of protein recruitment to membranes and the dynamics associated with lipid binding. The focus will be specifically on protein systems that are involved in signal transduction at the membrane surface. Computer simulations will be steered by the available experimental Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), genetic and crystallography data. This position is ideal for applicants with extensive experience in computational techniques who would like to learn how to synergistically combine computational and experimental approaches to achieve atomic-level description of biomolecular systems.
Texas A&M, one of the largest universities in the USA, has more than 65,000 students from all 50 states and 124 countries, a multibillion-dollar endowment ranked 4th among public universities, and a top 20 research enterprise. College Station/Bryan is a Sun Belt metropolitan area with nearly 180,000 residents. It is consistently ranked among the best places to live in the country, yet retains a low cost of living with easy access to major Texas cities. Texas A&M University is an EO/AA/Vet/Disability Employer.
Interested applicants should send their CV, the names of three referees, and representative publications to tigumenova@tamu.edu and vytas@tamu.edu.
Highly desirable skills include: direct experience with using GROMACS software for simulation of large biomolecular systems; experience in using Python for scientific software programming; experience in accelerated sampling approaches; and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, or a related field. The ideal candidate will also have familiarity with lipid and membrane biochemistry. Salary is commensurate with experience.
