Job Summary:
This post-doctoral fellowship is designed to promote the acquisition of competencies needed by academic leaders to prepare others, such as speech language pathologists, to provide effective interventions to children who are deaf and hard of hearing and use spoken language, and to contribute to the scholarly evidence-base with rigorous, high-quality research. The fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Emily Lund, the principal investigator of the Child Hearing, Language, Literacy and Deafness laboratory (PI: Emily Lund) in the Davies School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Texas Christian University. The fellow will gain advanced training and research experience in language and literacy research related to children who are Deaf and hard of hearing and use spoken language, and will prepare for a future full-time faculty position via the following activities:
Each Fellow will teach no more than one course per semester for the college, and will focus on research and publishing activities that enhance prospects for a future full-time tenure-track faculty appointment.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Analyzes data, interprets results and writes articles for publication related to language and literacy development in children who are Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) based on data from a longitudinal sample.
2. Collects data and manages human participants information from children who are DHH as part of an ongoing longitudinal investigation on language and literacy development.
3. Collects pilot data and writes federal grant applications, with a particular emphasis in intervention studies and telepractice research
4. Participates in the development of a home-based telepractice intervention program and community connection platform for preschool children who are DHH living in rural areas
5. Participates in mentoring activities for undergraduate and graduate students in speech-language pathology
6. Networks and engages with college leadership and other professionals
7. Attends and presents research findings at various conferences
8. Develops pedagogical competencies by teaching one course per semester in communication sciences and disorders
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• Ph.D. degree in speech-language pathology, or other closely related area
• Experience with engagements with students, innovations in research, scholarship and creative activities, and partnerships in outreach and service that advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Demonstrated commitment to research and teaching.
• Experience with diversity efforts: including diversity-related research, teaching goals emphasizing diversity, and work focusing on first-generation college graduates
Award
The DEI Scholar program is funded by the Office of the Provost and administered by the Office of Research. The salary is competitive with similar postdoctoral fellowships, and the position includes a generous benefits package including access to medical, vision, dental, and life insurance and additional support for research and professional development activities. Each award is for 12 months and may be renewable for only two additional years upon demonstration of academic productivity. The position will begin Fall 2024.
