Executive Director
Description: This leadership position reports to and works closely with the Board and directs strategic planning, manages financial and other resources, establishes, and executes the development plan, retains and manages staff members, consultants, and vendors, and directs all Paul Robeson House operations, including budgeting, financial management, and reporting. As this is the organization's first full-time staff position, a considerable focus will be on energizing Board and Advisory Committee volunteers to inspire the organization to meet grant milestones and achieve fundraising goals.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Learn the Princeton environment, which includes becoming familiar with both the people who comprise the Witherspoon Jackson Neighborhood and the Princeton philanthropic and political leadership; Understand and embrace the changes projected Princeton growth represents
- Implement the 2021-23 Strategic Plan and related operational plans
- Meet annual fundraising goals to support the completion of the restoration of the House, programming, and administration
- Manage relationships with major donors and stakeholders
- Actively cultivate community and regional partnerships
- Represent the PRHoP in donor, community, and stakeholder settings; serve as a primary spokesperson for Paul Robeson and the Paul Robeson House of Princeton.
- Direct the annual campaign
- As resources permit, hire and supervise a development director and other staff members
- Develop and implement programming to fulfill the mission with particular focus in the first two years on the execution of plans for the celebration of the 125th birthday of Paul Robeson
- Working with PRHoP's digital marketing and communications contractor, oversee website management and the building of PRHoP's social media presence
- Working with Board Chair of Construction and Facilities, oversee the construction and operations
- In consultation with the Treasurer, manage the preparation of and adherence to the annual budget and implement accurate accounting, policies, practices, and reporting. Complete all state, federal, and grant reporting processes
Work Environment and Benefits
The executive director will join a committed organization of Board and Advisory Committee members who are passionate about the legacy of Paul Robeson and the importance of his birthplace in that story. The Paul Robeson House of Princeton office is downtown Princeton at 112 Witherspoon Street, next door to the House under restoration. This position offers remote flexibility in Central New Jersey or the New York Metropolitan Region. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work on-site in Princeton, New Jersey, at least once a week and attend in-person donor meetings as often as possible. An attractive compensation and benefits package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Qualifications:
- Experience serving in a top leadership role and managing an entrepreneurial, growing organization
- Enthusiasm for working closely with a diverse board of directors
- Ability to work effectively with Board and Advisory Committee members and attract enthusiastic and able volunteers
- Fundraising experience, ideally across institutional (corporate and foundation) and individual giving
- Ability to create a significant gifts pipeline and oversee donor cultivation and stewardship activities
- Track record for achieving development results
- Ability to develop significant donors and grants
- Ability to design and execute productive fundraising events
- Experience developing in-person and virtual events and programs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and multi-disciplinary project management skills Undergraduate degree: graduate degree preferred
- Knowledge of American history and African Americans' historical role
- Proficiency with social media
