ASSISTANT ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER – WILLIMANTIC POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Town of Windham seeks qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Animal Control Officer.
This is a full-time position (40 hrs/wk @ $20.00/hr).
Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Police or his/her designee, the Assistant Animal Control Officer is responsible for the overall enforcement of animal control statutes and ordinances, and for the capture and impounding of stray dogs. Duties include responding to complaints of roaming dogs, and sick, injured, noisy, and vicious animals. This work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill, and ability in animal care and handling, and dealing with the public in a courteous manner. The position requires the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

Must possess a high school diploma or GED certification; plus one (1) year of experience working with dogs and some work involving public contact; or in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Criminal background and driving record checks required prior to employment. Must be bondable. Must possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Bilingual (English and Spanish), preferred.
