About the School of Information Technology
The School of Information Technology (SoIT) is a national leader in studying solutions and needs that connect people, information, and the technology of the time. The SoIT is home to Ohio's first Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Information Technology. In addition, it is home to Ohio's first ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity. The SoIT has been growing at 20% annually and currently serves more than 2,000 students with 31 full-time faculty members, 24 full-time staff, and 32 part-time faculty. The SoIT is home to several centers including an NSA/DHS Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, the Information Technology Solutions Center, the Ohio Cyber Range Institute, Applied Machine Learning and Intelligence Center, the Justice, Law, and Information Technology Institute, and the Civic Technology Center.

Job Overview
The successful applicant will be a research associate at the Justice, Law, and Information Technology Institute. The JLIT Institute is a network among the School of Information Technology, the School of Criminal Justice, and the College of Law. Responsibilities will include research on understanding and developing data-informed criminal sentencing stories and may include collaborating on research design, data collection, management, and analyses; preparation of grant proposals; preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations. In addition, the responsibilities may include participation in graduate and undergraduate student mentoring. The scholar will work in a team-based environment as directed by the project director.
The School of Information Technology (SoIT) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for the Research Associate position to begin May 2023, or as soon as practical. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the potential to renew contingent on the candidate's productivity and the availability of funding. Review of the applications will start as soon as applicants apply and will continue until the position is filled.
Essential Functions
Bachelor's Degree required in a related field.
Required Experience
Doctoral degree in Criminal Justice, Information Technology, or Law.

Essential Functions
- Assist with the coordination of research studies in a particular discipline.
- Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience.
- Solve problems using combined research knowledge.
- Independently works on whole projects/problems.
- Contribute to the collective team effort.
- Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpret data and assist in judging validity of data.
- Analyze research results.
- Organize data search and analysis procedures.
- Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards.
- Assist in the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data.
- Accomplish assigned results for project/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.
- Serve as a seasoned level researcher.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Bachelor's Degree required in a related field.
Required Experience
- In-depth knowledge of the intersection of criminal justice, information technology, and law.
- Experience in coordinating interdisciplinary research projects at the intersection of law, criminal justice, and information technology in centers such as JLIT.
Doctoral degree in Criminal Justice, Information Technology, or Law.
