Physical Requirements
Standing for long periods of time. Lift or push core boxes up to 75 lbs. safely with assistance, if needed. Independently navigate facility and grounds. Safe operation of materials handling equipment as directed.
Shift
Working hours Between Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.
37.5 hours per week.
Job Summary
The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking a safety-conscious and self-motivated employee to contribute to a grant-funded project for 6 months. The project's main deliverables include preserving and describing 170 rock cores for use in research. This position will include creating core descriptions and rehousing mineral rock cores with critical mineral potential. This position will also be responsible for performing quality assurance and control tasks to ensure data accuracy and discoverability. Strong applicants will have an interest in critical minerals, data preservation, and be skilled at attention to detail, clear handwriting, and identifying minute differences. This position is eligible for healthcare benefits.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, teamwork, must have legible handwriting, core description of rock cores

No
Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelor's in Science or Bachelor's in Earth Science, Materials Handling Equipment Experience: manual pallet jack, rock saw, tile saw or similar experience. Warehouse experience and familiarity with geologic nomenclature.
